Happy Thoughts
Sometimes, the option to let go of the feeling of negativity towards yourself and your surroundings doesn’t feel like a viable one. Maybe you’re a little bit stubborn and think to yourself- “Well yes, I’m unhappy, but who would I be if I changed how I thought? What does it matter?”
The thing is, when you are hanging onto those thoughts and resisting change- that’s all that is going to happen. If you don’t change anything- nothing will change. There isn’t going to be some magic moment that makes you feel better. No best friend, boyfriend, promotion, party, money will come to you without your own action encouraging it. If you hate yourself, and accept all the negative thoughts you have about yourself as true- then you will continue to hate yourself- regardless of what you look like. But when you start to recognize and reject these thoughts, you begin a change in yourself, and your perspective. Your perspective creates your reality. When you change the way you think, you change how you are going to feel.
What you do matters. If you post and reblog negative graphics and quotes about your body and your perception- you are going to perpetuate those feelings. It isn’t going to make things better. And while you might try to argue with me, saying that your tumblr is your dairy, and that’s how you feel- then I’m just going to tell you that even if that is true- your still going to be unhappy at the end with those thought patterns. If you want to start feeling better, if you want to stop thinking these thoughts, if you want to have a better life- stop accepting these kinds of thoughts. Reject the thoughts that “changing my thinking won’t work, you don’t understand, I’m really depressed”. Or “that’s just how I am”, Because it isn’t. No one is born negatively relating to their surroundings or hating their bodies without some sort of chemical imbalance. No one is born positively relating. And just as we have to learn how to do those, we all can learn how to start thinking with less of a negative view.
It all comes down to this- You can either wake up in the morning, and feel sad because it is raining and you will get wet, or you can feel at peace, listening to the sounds of the rain and see how it alters its surroundings. When you experience something negative, like encountering a traffic jam- you can let it affect you and make you sad or you can realize that sometimes, you can not control what goes on around you- but you can always control your reaction to it.
